Buy it for a pre-teen XP installed with ease and the included XP drivers CD is a great idea, but the keyboard is unusable.
XP installed with ease and the included XP drivers CD is a great idea, but the keyboard is unusable.
Because the keyboard is impossibly small even for the most petite girls in our office, this system is best for a pre-teen child who can handle the small size.
The system doesn't feel cheap or flimsy and the included Linux runs great, XP runs decently after optimization and disabling of unnecessary services.
Consider using external mice and keyboards when sharing it someone of normal hand size.

THE IDEAL MINI-COMPUTER!
Bought the ASUS computer to carry with me on trips away from home. It is lightweight, has most of the software one needs for communications and whatever else one owns a computer for. The keyboard is too small for anything but "hunt and peck" unless one has small hands. Will probably carry a Bluetooth fold up type keyboard, which along with the mouse will do nicely for my mobile needs. If a range extender exists for it, that will be my next acquisition to pickup open systems I can communications through. While I am still in the process of learning how to use it effectively, I am perfectly happy being able to use it as is, and with Majic Jack Plus Skype, it is ideal for taking advantage of those capabilities as well. I would recommend this mini computer to anyone who wants a really find peice of equipment. Need a "Buxton type over the sholder case" for carrying it easily. i.e., in an insulated case that will protect it from damage if dropped. So say I, ROBERT INGRAM POWELL, Ph.D. W6VRO@MSN.COM

I wish I could use my Asus!
When I purchased this product on Amazon in April, it claimed the delivery would be within 3 to 4 days. Once the order was processed, I was informed that it would come from J&R Music World. Shipping does take 3 to 4 days....once they've shipped it. Had to wait a week or two before it was shipped.
I received my Asus Eee PC 8G in in early May. The adapter did not work so I am unable to charge the battery. I received a message from J&R Music World that they would request a new adapter from the manufacturer and then send it to me. It is now June 4th, 2008 and I have yet to receive it.
I've not been able to use this PC on one trip and have another trip coming up in 10 days. It looks like I just have a 0 lump of metal instead of a PC. I'm losing faith in Amazon and J&R Music World. By the time I get it working, it will likely be obsolete.

Great PC
Excellent small and I did install the windows XP it work great without any problem. I recomend this product.

Nice for traveling and
I like the concept of the Eee PC as it's great for traveling. I use it for our golf club and take to the golf course to enter scores after the round. It fits nicely in a small laptop bag that fits in the cart basket easily. Took it on a golf trip and was great for cruising the net using the hotel wireless network. Just wish I knew the newer model with a 40 gig drive was coming out. I have a small 100 gig usb external drive that extends the data capability nicely. Great machine!
